Posted: Jun. 25, 2026
When the weather turns hot, few dishes are as refreshing and satisfying as Japanese-style cold ramen. Known as hiyashi chūka (冷やし中華), this popular summer dish combines chilled ramen noodles with colorful toppings and a tangy soy-based dressing. It's light, flavorful, and surprisingly easy to make at home.
What Is Japanese-Style Cold Ramen?
Unlike traditional hot ramen served in rich broth, Japanese cold ramen is served chilled and topped with fresh ingredients such as cucumber, ham, egg, tomatoes, and sometimes seafood. A cold, savory-sweet dressing ties everything together, creating a refreshing meal perfect for warm days.
